US Open Digital Twin
IBM has been the US Open’s technology partner for over 30 years and they celebrate that partnership in numerous ways. In 2017 we built an interactive data visualization in their hospitality suites that activated the vast amounts of data generated within the tournament onto a virtual model of the grounds.
This data included the real-time position of every player and every ball during every play on every court, as well as social sentiment for each match as it was being played. Visitors were able to watch the real-time data on any court or across the entire grounds as well as play back historical data from prior days of the tournament.
This engagement was so successful that in 2018 IBM adapted it into an augmented reality feature within the official USTA mobile app and built a new fan-facing experience for the tournament.
